Any wild species that can enter your house can chew on wood or electrical wires. Chewing on wood and electrical wires can cause severe damage to your home and sometimes turn out to be the source of huge mishap or distortedness in the house. Just like other wild animals, flying squirrel do the same. The first question that pops up in mind is why any wild animal would chew on wood or electrical wires? What are the risks in that chewing? And how can and till what level it can cause damage to our house?
Reason for chewing
Chewing on wood or electrical wires by flying squirrels can be for many reasons. Food is the basic and main reason of chewing, mostly flying squirrels chew when they are out of food and are in search of food. Chewing of wood can be done because they want to make a hole in your wall and want to hide in there. Chewing electrical wires can also be done in search of food when they are tempted by something attractive that is across the fence.
Risks of chewing
The risks of wood chewed by squirrel poses threat to both the parties. If they are chewing on wood, they are probably damaging one of our favorite furniture in the house, or maybe making holes in places that are supposed to be closed. Electrical wires if chewed by them will result in them catching current and the electric system of our house, attic etc. being damaged. Once the system is down, it gets pretty hard to identify the location of wire breakage even with latest locator equipment.
