Kokomo Wildlife Trapper Tip of the Month:
Mole Trapping — How To Trap a Mole?
A tough job can be trapping moles when you know they have been damaging your well watered lawn. Your plants are being harmed and the consistency of grass is there no more. Regardless of the fact that they are helpful in some aspects such as keeping away warms, billbugs & grubs. Moreover, if you think the mole activity in your lawn is increasing, you might want to have a look at the presence of such insects & pests more that the mole feed on. Why it is necessary to keep moles away and trap them if found inside? Because they will dig deep and they will damage the fertile area for plants to grow. They will do that by any means and to any limits.
How to Trap
Look for deep holes inside the garden/lawn, make sure that there is mole activity. You might wanna assess the situation for a while until you are sure it is a mole hole. However, an effective way of trapping is usage of deep bucket under active tunnel, which could be helpful.
Types of Traps:
Spring-loaded prong
The area below should be flattened slightly bigger than the base so that the trap can settle over it. To keep it away from pets & kids, use a 5 liter bucket at the top.
Harpoon Trap
Both the legs of the harpoon trap should be dug deep inside the ground and the top should be over the runway of the tunnel. While you are digging holes for both legs, gently push the trap legs inside while you position the trigger on the face of the tunnel.
There are several other kinds of traps such as choker loop, basic mouse trap etc. but the most effective ones to be found for moles are listed above.
